Just when I thought I'd got my head around all my symptoms......a new one has thrown me. My right forefinger tip has shrunk. It feels sore. The shape is pointy and tapered and even the nail has got smaller. I'm not sure if this is connected to the RA, the Raynaud's phenomenon or the possible overlap syndrome that my rheumatologist is still testing for. I am scared as I can't bear the thought of losing any more hand function. I'm feeling really fed up now and want to get off this roller-coaster. I feel really ill on the methotrexate, am struggling to stay at work, am in pain and just feel like crying...now I've written this I AM crying. I think it's all getting on top of me. Anyway...got that all off my chest. If anyone can offer wisdom on my weird finger I'd be grateful. Sorry to moan about a finger when some of you are in severe pain all over but it's the thought of what it signifies, and whether it will get worse that is really scaring me.
Best wishes to you all from Naomi.

Difficult to stay positive when you in pain I know am there at the mo. so fully understand.

I am on my bed at the moment as really tired have a tickly cough and sore throat - oh NO I
groan. Going to rest and then watch Strictly that always cheers me up.

Take care

Hi

I do think that any hand changes feel very serious to me and actually the drs couldn't care less in general!

I think its a loss, and that loss inflicted by RA/ other illness that hasn't been in in anyway your control. That makes you feel angry, bereft and afraid all at once

I know it probably sounds superficial but I really cant say enough about getting some good quality counselling.

I often say my body is kerput but my mind is alright and my job is to stimulate that brain of mine and drag my body along with it! Im not there every day of the week and minute of the day but being feisty by nature does help. In times when I'm down over things (which admittedly is rare) I know that I must do something that I can actually do and control that I actually LIKE DOING!

sniff the roses that sort of thing....

my index fingers have got pointy... and the others wonky.... and they are waxy and shiney and have ridged look to my nails... typical ra in many ways but they arent so bad I think then I sit next to a friend at 35 and think... hmmmm!

Thanks Jenni
I will think about having some counselling. I was offered it by my GP and also through my work in the NHS. So far I have been so busy sorting out the physical side of things that I haven't really attended to the emotional side. I have to come to terms with the loss of control and all the fear and uncertainty that will be with me for the rest of my life now that I have this horrible illness.

Hi Naomi,

It does take time to adjust to having this disease. Please think seriously about taking up the offer of counselling because who knows it just might help, it certainly won't do you any harm.
